Introduction

The Splatoon series is a 3 game-series for various Nintendo devices which continues to grow with each new addition to the series. There is the original Splatoon for the Wii U, which online services for are either discontinued or going to be discontinued, Splatoon 2, and Splatoon 3, both games on the Nintendo switch. Splatoon 3, the newest game in the series, is also the game to introduce not only different game modes, but mechanics as well. This page and the others listed below will give you an idea of everything that returned, but also that which has never been seen in the other games.

The third and most recent addition to the Splatoon series, Splatoon 3, on the bottom, added many different features to the game and mechanisms, such as squid rolls and squid surges. Featuring three idols this time: Shiver, Frye and Big Man, also know as Deep Cut, changing how Splatfests operate and adding a new mode during Splatfests called Tricolor turf war.

The original Splatoon, released in 2015, was the start of the Splatoon series and created the resources to expand upon with the next Splatoon games. With the in-game famous Squid Sisters, a band consisting of cousins Callie and Marie, hosting the news system that told the players the maps available for the gamemode and a storymode, the game had a lot of opportunities for new and old players alike.

The second Splatoon game, on the left, was released in 2017 and started to build upon the features of the first game (for example, adding more weapon classes and more features for the weapon classes). It added more gamemodes and a completely new story mode, with a DLC which included harder bosses from the main story mode and added completely new character customization options.

The basic game modes: Oldest to newest

The original Splatoon game had very basic game modes, including:

The options in this game are somewhat limited compared to the future games in the series, but it still was a great start to the series, at the time. This game also introduced Splatfests, which were events where two teams fought over a theme (Example: "Which food is better?" with the options of Hamburger and Hot dog.) Splatfests are limited to the life of the game, and the final Splatfests are usually the last. The days before Nintendo shuts down wifi services for the Wii U,playing turf war and ranked mode on the original Splatoon is difficult but possible. Once services are unavailable, though, turf war and ranked will be off limits and the only option to play on this game will be the single player mode.

Splatoon 2

Splatoon 2 for the Nintendo switch added multiple new things, including

A lot more mechanics are in Splatoon 2, such as the addition of a vertical flick while using a roller and the addition a new weapon classes, such as dualies and brellas. The new gamemodes, Salmon Run and Clam Blitz, provide for more options players can do instead of the traditional turf war and ranked. The addition of League battles allow you to play ranked while also recruiting your friends, replacing the first game's squad battle option.

Splatoon 3

Splatoon 3 adds more things again, including

Splatoon 3 has updated the different gamemodes and added different things, including the addition of stringers and splatanas. With the addition of Challenges, Big Run, and Eggstra work, players have lots of opportunities to play the special gamemodes, which are currently still active. Of course, once the game comepletes its life, it is likely that these special gamemodes will most likely stop becoming available.
